Very Key Poker Terms 4
January 11, 2011
Welcome back! It is time to list more terms that will help you to succeed on money poker sites. I hope you are enjoying my alphabetical progress as much as I am. If nothing else it prevents me from agonizing over the vast number of choices in the poker dictionary.
I chose ICM for the letter “I”, which stands for Independent Chip Model. If you enjoy STTs on a Full Tilt Poker download, ICM is incredibly important. It assigns a cash value to your chips when there are less than 10 players remaining in a tournament.
There are not a lot of J terms, so I will just quickly define “jam”. If you find some free poker training and the instructor says he likes a jam, he is saying that he likes going all-in. ”Shove” and “push” both have the same meaning.
The next word I will mention is “kill”. If you decide to play live poker instead of download Roulette one night, there is often a kill game going on. If someone wins two consecutive hands, they will be required to put in a special blind preflop. A half kill is one and a half times the big blind and a full kill is two times the bid blind. Those that shy away from aggro tables on poker flash sites will probably prefer kill tables since they can slow aggressive players down a bit.
When someone raises or calls “light”, they are doing it with a hand that is usually second best. Say you are using Tiger Gaming and you receive T3 in the small blind. A person that raises a lot in late position raises on the button, and you make a 3-bet since you assume he is usually relatively weak in this situation. He is probably raising light in late position, and you are reraising light from the blinds. You should encounter these types of hands often when playing online.
I think that will wrap it up for today. Next month I will get started again with the letter M. In the meantime, get some experience at the tables.
